Description

Tung oil or China wood oil is a drying oil from the pressed seed from the nut of the tung tree (Vernicia fordii). Tung oil dries upon exposure to air.

The resulting coating is transparent and plastic-like. It resists marring, penetrates well, and is environmentally friendly. This oil is pure tung oil and does not contain accelerator.

Will coagulate in damp cold weather.

Traditionally used as a waterproof coating for Chinese junk boats. In wood finishing, tung oil slowly cures to a satin “wetted wood” look with slight golden tint.

It protects and strengthens the wood against scratches and moisture. Can be used on porous minerals such as cement, granite and more for that wet-stone look.

Also used in the composition of oil paints and printing inks.

Also known as Wood oil, Lumbang oil, Noix d’abrasin (Aleurites fordii and Aleurites montana, family Euphorbiaceae)

Tung tree is a native tree in China.
